Paisa Culture
The rural humour of the people of Medellín, reflected in the trovas antioqueñas, the typical dances and, in general, the paisa culture, mixes with the hectic life of the metropolis.

There are no mountains or rivers to frighten these people, who have one of the most productive territories in the country, with large companies and growth in all sectors.

In fact, ingenuity is a hallmark of the Antioquians, so it's no wonder that in 2013 Medellín was named the world's most innovative city in the Wall Street Journal's City of the Year competition.
Tourism in Medelín destination
The city can be reached by road or air. The nearest airport is José María Córdova International Airport, located in the neighbouring municipality of Rionegro. From there you can take buses or taxis to the centre of Medellín.

Hotels The city has hotels and hostels of all stars and prices, so find the best option for your preferred area.

It's a good idea to visit places like Pueblito Paisa, which is a replica of a typical village in the region, located on Cerro Nutibara.

The Arvi Park is also worth a visit, as are places on the outskirts of the city, such as Guatapé, home to the famous Piedra del Peñol.

To get to Guatapé, you can take a bus that will drop you off at the foot of the impressive Piedra del Peñol, a 220-metre-high monolith that you can climb to enjoy the unique scenery, as the stone is surrounded by lakes and mountains.

You can also visit the traditional, colourful and charming village of Guatapé.

Medellín also has the Parque Explora, an interactive science and technology museum where children and adults can learn and do a wide range of activities. Nearby are the Planetarium and the Parque de los Deseos.

Medellín is also full of shopping centres, such as El Tesoro and Santafé, where you can buy all kinds of items and enjoy a wide range of gastronomic offerings.

Another great plan is to enjoy the typical cuisine of the region, which includes dishes such as buñuelos, mondongo and the mythical bandeja paisa (paisa tray).

And if your plan is to enjoy the nightlife, the El Poblado area has a wide range of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
